Fact-checking
With the increasing spread of digital content – including manipulated content, deep fakes and deliberately misleading representations – the clear distinction between verifiable facts and unverified information is becoming increasingly important. Fact-checking is a core task of journalism. It is therefore the responsibility of editorial teams to always scrutinise facts and question the credibility of sources. If doubts arise, fact-checking is necessary.
Fact-checking must be based on traceable, verifiable sources and must not convey any opinion or stance.
