SBC contributors, presenters and hosts do not report on people close to them, in particular family members and friends.

Personal interests are particularly sensitive in political and economic matters. However, recusal rules also apply to personal relationships and interests in the fields of culture, sport, science and entertainment.

They also apply to former employers, commitments, sponsorship partnerships, marketing agencies, institutions, industries, associations, publishers, event organisers and influencers with whom there is a personal connection.

SBC employees must avoid any appearance of bias. As a general rule, SBC employees should avoid reporting on people and topics with whom they have or had a personal connection. They must be transparent about their interests to their managers and recuse themselves (see 11.1 Disclosure of personal interests).

Exceptions to the recusal rule must be justified on objective grounds and approved by managers.
