The use of AI places increased demands on us. We meet these demands in a responsible and transparent manner. The standards and values defined in the Editorial Guidelines also apply to the use of AI.

Developments in the field of AI are dynamic, and the general framework and regulations are changing rapidly. The specific regulations on the use of AI tools are set out in the continuously updated AI guidelines. They should therefore be consulted regularly – and whenever there is any uncertainty. We also bear editorial responsibility for content that has been researched, created or edited with the aid of AI.

We are particularly cautious when using generative AI tools, as the output often appears correct but may contain false information. Source checking and fact checking are therefore essential. AI-generated output must also always be checked, verified and supplemented with our own expertise on the basis of journalistic criteria. This also includes checking the output for possible bias.
